A draft Biodiversity Action Plan for Kilkenny is now on public consultation. It has been prepared after community engagement during the summer. The public are invited to review the draft plan and submit their comments.

The development of Kilkenny’s Biodiversity Action Plan 2025-2030 has been supported by The Heritage Council.
There are a number of documents available to view under the Materials Heading on the right hand side.
The draft Biodiversity Action Plan consists of two documents. The Draft Action Plan sets the policy and legislative context. It provides examples of previous biodiversity research completed by Kilkenny County Council, outlines the biodiversity value in Kilkenny and the threats which are of concern. The document titled Bio Plan Objectives and Actions, provides the detail of what will be achieved, listing different actions under 6 objective headings.
There are two documents relating to the statutory requirements to screen the draft Biodiversity Action Plan for AA and SEA. This has been completed by external consultants Fehily Timoney.
The last document is a Summary Report on the Preparation of the Draft Biodiversity Action Plan. It describes the consultation process, the steps that were taken to develop the Draft Biodiversity Action Plan and a summary of the topics and concerns received as part of the public engagement process between March and June this year.
