Brief Introduction to the Speed Limit Review /  Draft Bye-Laws 2017

In April 2015 The Department of Transport Tourism & Sport directed all Local Authorities and the National Roads Authority (Now Transport Infrastructure Ireland) to carry out a review and update of all speed limits across the country in accordance with a set of guidelines for setting and managing speed limits in Ireland which were published and issued by the Department in March 2015.

Kilkenny County currently abides by the Traffic Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws 2012 a copy of which is uploaded on our Webpage for your information.

Kilkenny County council have now completed and uploaded the proposed changes to the Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws 2017 on http://consult.kilkenny.ie

As part of the proposed changes, the Bye-Law schedules have also changed. The schedules will now be documented as follows,

Schedule 1 – 20km/h

Schedule 2 – 30km/h

Schedule 3 – 40 km/h

Schedule 4 – 50km/h

Schedule 5 – 60km/h

Schedule 6 – 80 km/h

Schedule 7 – 100km/h

Schedule 8 – 120km/h

No amendments are proposed to existing Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws for Schedules 1, 3 and 8. Amendments are proposed for all other Schedules.
