Mount Juliet is recognized as a high quality tourism and sporting resource of significant local, national and international importance. It is also a significant built, natural and cultural heritage resource. The addition in 2017 of 90 new hotel bedrooms has pushed the capacity of the entire estate to absolute maximum. Any further residential development on the estate would threaten the sensitive nature of the woodlands, the landscape, heritage and environmental attributes of the estate. Increased development would be inconsistent and not compatible with the aspiration to protect and enhance the entire Mount Juliet Estate and thus should not be considered or incorporated into the 2020-2026 Kilkenny County Development Plan.
