    Knocktopher Traffic Calming Scheme 2025

I’ve looked at the proposal for Knocktopher Traffic Calming Scheme 2025 and am pretty happy with it. The one concern I have is an issue I come across daily. When traffic is coming from Ballyhale to Knocktopher and are approaching the first roundabout at Holohan’s House, I’ve seen on numerous occasions that drivers seem to forget there is a roundabout there and don’t stop. They take the left towards the second roundabout without looking right. Drivers seem to think they have the right of way and ignore traffic coming from the Thomastown road. I live in Whitescastle and have come out of the estate on numerous occasions, turn right and as I come to the roundabout traffic coming from Ballyhale drive straight through the roundabout. Im surprised there hasn’t been numerous accidents at this location because of this behaviour. I would appreciate if this could be also looked at as part of the purposed works, Regards, John Darcy

    Address poor road condition.

I was driving past a Tirlan a few weeks ago and the weather was quiet bad and another vehicle was passing on the the other side of the road and I had no option but to drive into a pot hole which has got so big over the last few months that its is now causing damage to vehicles. The result is the steering on my car is off and a constant shaking on the steering wheel. It happened just after the last time the road was "repaired".As for the tear in the road closer to the Ballyhale side, I've driven many different vehicles on it and it's quiet dangerous and frightening for people with smaller tyres particularly if the don't know the road. The tear pulls the car close to the centre of the road. Can you imagine a young or inexperienced driver getting caught in the with the speed some trucks come into that bend. It's an accident waiting to happen.

    Roads

Since the motorway was finished in Knocktopher,  the council completely have forgotten about Knocktopher, Ballyhale roads in the area.

Since the motorway a lot more traffic is in the area and the roads have not been maintained. The road has been closed a couple of time between Knocktopher and Ballyhale to fix a couple of potholes and the work carried out has been terrible.

With a lot more heavy traffic on the roads the work that has been carried out hasn't lasted long , which has caused damage to cars at no expense to the council as poor workmanship on the roads.

The roads in the area need to maintained property and lights not all working from Knocktopher to Ballyhale which is a huge health and safety rick for all walkers.

Before any work starts in the area, the council needs to fix the roads first and a proper job done instead of a cowboy job . When the roads are closed for 2 weeks in total and roads left in a state and the roads in a worst state after a couple of weeks.

As with more traffic on the roads coming into Knocktopher from the Thomastown side onto the motorway traffic calming needs to be done properly with more lighting leading into the village also.

Hopefully the council will listen to the people in the area before works starts.

    Knocktopher Traffic calming proposal 2025.

The M9 Motorway at exit 10 Knocktopher was opened on the 10th. day of March 2010. At that time the resident's of Knocktopher were told there would be traffic calming measure's put in place on the entrance to the village from the Motorway, after 15 year's it is very welcome. In addition to what is proposed I think it is essential to erect a pedestrian crossing in the village on R699  the motorway road before the roundabout , as between the village speed limits & the roundabout there are 10 fully occupied house's, to cross the road now can be of grave danger... In the same area there is a constant Parking of Articulated Truck's on footpaths, bollards' are needed to prevent the continuation of such a dangerous habit . Same footpaths need to be repaired. Regards, looking forward to a much needed improvement in the Village of Knocktopher...

Traffic and parking exiting centra shop and petrol station

Hi i would like to to add a comment in relation to the service station traffic in Knocktopher as to to large vehicles parking on the footpaths and across the road from the entrance to the petrol pumps on R713. Also to the speed of the traffic exiting around the back entrance  as visibility of pedestrians using the footpaths is not clear especially from the Kilkenny side and the vehicles are not giving way or stopping to allow pedestrians, cyclists etc to pass safely.
