Pursuant to the provisions of Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994 as amended by the Public Transport Regulation Act, 2009 (Section 46), Kilkenny County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out works on Gore’s Bridge consisting of the following:
A new raised footpath of 1.800m width to allow for the safe movement of pedestrians in both directions;
New pedestrian railing, independent of the existing masonry parapet to protect the heritage of the bridge;
A new traffic light controlled shuttle system will be installed;
The carriageway width will be reduced to one lane of 3.250m;
A rubbing strip will be introduced on the downstream side of the bridge with a raised kerb to segregate the running surface;
Approaches to the bridge will be modified by narrowing the running lanes and calming the traffic, improving pedestrian access to the proposed footway by introducing pedestrian crossings and raised footways.
In accordance with the requirements of Article 120(1)(a) of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 (as amended) and Section 50(1) of the Roads Act 1993 (as amended), the local authority has made a preliminary examination of the nature, size and location of the proposed development. The authority has concluded that there is no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development and a determination has been made that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is not required.
As per Article 120(3) where any person considers that the development proposed to be carried out would be likely to have significant effects on the environment, he or she may, at any time before the expiration of 4 weeks beginning on the date of the publication of this notice apply to An Bord Pleanála for a screening determination as to whether the development would be likely to have a significant effect on the environment.

At the Castlecomer Municipal District Office, Kilkenny Street, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Additionally, an Information Session will be held with representatives from Kilkenny County Council & Carlow County Council on Thursday 15th February 2024 from 4.00pm until 7.00pm at Ionad Dara, Chapel Street, Goresbridge, Co. Kilkenny, R95 D654.
