4.3 Urban Design Strategy

1 Sweeneys Orchard (The Gardens) This part of the site is owned by Kilkenny County Council and as such can be developed appropirately at anytime, the housing as suggested is a good idea but needs reconfiguration to integrate the housing to the existing Green Street and Vicar Street communities, the entrances to these sites already exist from Greensbridge and Vicar Street, I submit that it should also be considered to put a micro brewery on this part of the site as it is not part of the Diagio Contract and 2 breweries have already expressed interest in establishing a brewery and creating much needed jobs on this part of the site. 

3 The Brewery There is significant historical and archeoligical interest on this part of the site, full archeological investigations of this part of the site should be completed and the stabilisation works be completed before any futher work is done, any archeological finds should dictate the Urban plan for this part of the site. 

4 The Market Yard - The Market yard part of the site has only been part of the process since June 2015, as such there has not been any chance to properly consult with the public on this part, and this needs further public consultation before this plan can be adopted. Consideration for Archeology should also be considered for this part of the site before any futher plans are considered. 

 

Linear Park Strategy

I submit that the Linear park concept needs futher work before adoption, Full archeological investigations need to be completed before the work is commenced on the park.

The park is too narrow at 15 Metres it should be closer to 30 metres

There needs to be specific protection for the only part of the site that has wildlife at the Poplar trees, the Park should start back from these trees to protect the swans and any other wildlife that is living there.
