The linear park is wasting Bord Failte money. At the public information evening a gentleman representing the council informed me that they will be doing the linear park in two sections. The reason for doing this is they had to spend public money from the Bord Failte or they would loose it. He informed me, that if they didn’t spend it before the end of 2016 they would loose this money. He informed me, they would implement one design for part of the walkway, they would then find money for the archeologically dig and implement another design on the second phase depending on what they found during the dig. I hate seeing the council spending public money just because they have a grant. Also, it is a waste of public money as the council have to match the funding from money sourced locally. They Brewery site is a great opportunity for Kilkenny and the council are developing this area without any serious consideration for the area. As the council representative told me, “we are developing this now before the archaeological dig is done because we have a grant, IT IS BEST NOT TO LOOSE A GRANT OR WE WON’T GET MORE, WE HAVE TO SPEND IT BEFORE THE END OF 2016”
At the public consultation people requested that the archaeological dig be done before the development. Why push forward just because you have a grant?
I do not believe this is best practice. I think it is about time the council listened to the people, give the area some real consideration, look at the area as a whole and not waste Bord Failte money and council money. Please think sensibly about the development of the brewery site for the people of Kilkenny, for future generations and for tourists to the area. OUR FUTURE OF THE CITY DEPENDS ON IT.
Kilkenny County Council, you have been entrusted with the development of our city. You have made a mistake on the development of the CAS. Please don’t make another foolish mistake.
