The document refers to "green" transport, much needed Park and Ride and heritage. Yet the Central Access Scheme will bring in heavy traffic into the old city causing congestion and pollution. There should be a ring road instead. CAS has already caused massive heritage damage to Vicar Street area. The Council's proposals are full of hypocrisy. Thousands of Kilkenny people and beyond have signed petitions to the County Council to stop this monstrosity. It is also a gross waste of public funds. Major heritage groups like Kilkenny Archaeological Society have opposed CAS. An ugly modern bridge through the city centre s not attractive to tourists- see David McWillams article in Irish Independent. Olivia O Leary in her RTE commentary said CAS is wrong.
